AirPort Express Dissection

While we are waiting for our 4G iPods to arrive we decided to dissect AirPort Express (AX), Apple's portable WiFi (802.11g) base station featuring AirTunes audio streaming and a print server. AX is a sealed (RF welded) device, similar in form to the AC adapters for PowerBook and iPod, and getting into the ABS plastic case is not pretty. More than a little blood was shed...

Chips:

The Broadcom BCM4712KFB wireless network processor does most of the work; routing data, driving the radio and print serving.

Audio is passed to the Texas Instruments PCM2705 DAC which outputs analog and digital audio to the mini-stereo/optical jack.
